Chrysler Gives Its Okay To The Imperial

A venerable name in autodom is being resurrected and it will soon grace the body of a large, rear wheel drive luxury car. After a successful “concept car” debut at a pair of recent auto shows, the Chrysler Imperial will be built and should be in U.S. showrooms in 2010. Yes, it will be a long wait for the Imperial’s return but the car must first await additional changes within DaimlerChrysler before it can be built. Read on to learn more about the Imperial’s impending return.

The Chrysler Imperial that has been currently making the rounds at various auto shows has been well received. Visitors have remarked favorably about the car’s Bentley like look as well as its cavernous interior and luxury appointments. Currently, the brand has nothing larger or more luxurious to offer buyers who might want to upgrade from the 300C, thus Chrysler has been regularly losing buyers to more luxurious brands, something parent DaimlerChrysler [DCX] wants to stem.

The Imperial name can be traced all the way back to 1926 when Walter P. Chrysler decided to take on Lincoln and Packard with a luxury model all of its own. From its inception, the Imperial has always represented the top of the line vehicle for Chrysler and it has, at various times, been marketed as its own make. Various versions of the Imperial have shown up over the years, with most of them being ultra luxurious versions of Chrysler’s New Yorker model.

The 2011 Chrysler Imperial will be similar in design to the concept car, but without the suicide doors. Chrysler put the special doors on the concept car in order to make it easier for auto show visitors to see inside the vehicle. Still, reports from the company are indicating that the 22 inch wheels, Bentley grille, boxy body, and leather/wood trim would be included. Prices for the Imperial will not be announced for several more years, but it could retail for as high as $60,000 according to some reports. Currently, the top of the line 300C maxes out at around $42,000.

So, why the hold up? Well, for one thing the Imperial program will be an added expense for DCX. Currently, the company is in the process of making its Mercedes line up more profitable and that involves the expense of updating several models. Based on the Mercedes “R Class” body, the coming Imperial is likely to be built on an updated version of the R Class platform. Both cars would arrive in dealer showrooms at the same time as 2011 models, hence the long lead time.

The Imperial concept sits on a frame with a 123 inch wheelbase. The car measures 214 long, much longer than the 300C. Reports are indicating that the concept car dimensions are likely to be retained.

For Chrysler fans, the Imperial represents further strengthening of the Chrysler-Mercedes relationship. By using a Mercedes platform, the Imperial can be built and will give Chrysler a much needed product. With a standard V8 mated to a five or six speed automatic the car will certainly not be on the fuel efficient side. However, my best guess is that the car will also come optionally equipped with a thrifty Mercedes built turbo diesel, a first for any Chrysler car.

Car Parts For the Heart

I have had the same car since 1998. It’s a 1995 Toyota that I bought used, and with the help of a friend of mine, we have kept the car in running condition for the past twelve years. That isn’t to say that it hasn’t had its share of down time, and we have replaced a lot of auto parts over the years, but I am happy to say that it is still running and still serving my family well.

There is a sentimental reason as to why we have kept that car. When my wife and I were dating, I bought that car and we spent a lot of our courtship driving to and from different things together. I’m a bit embarrassed to admit it, but I even proposed to her in that car. It’s a long story that I won’t regale you with at this time, but when I once asked her about selling the car for something newer or in better shape, she got quiet, looked at me, and said “But my life began in that car.” I melted, and to this day we still drive our well-worn and well-loved 1995 Toyota Corolla.

So I guess we will have that car for a long time to come. The engine is fantastic, and as long as the transmission holds out we will keep making the necessary repairs. We drove our firstborn home from the hospital in that car, and now I use it to drop him and his sister off at school It seems like the memories will just keep coming.

Chevrolet Depot Hack, 1927

1927 Chevy. Beautiful, fully restored 1927 Chevy 1/2 ton soft side delivery truck. It was built in an Oakland, CA truck plant, and presently appears as it did originally, in every detail!
The restoration includes wooden spoke wheels, new paint, new wide whitewall tires, new top and side covers. All chrome and all wood in the vehicle have been restored to their pristine condition.
The gorgeous specimen is in excellent running condition, and will take you back to a slower, more opulent time of manners and beauty. It’s a must-see. It has a first place trophy from a local show, and is ready for a repeat performance.

Bentley Arnage Red Label, 2000

Launched in late 1999 was the Arnage Red Label. Volkswagen, who had purchased the Bentley name and Crewe factory was loathe to continue purchasing BMW’s engines, and it turned out that Bentley engineers and customers felt the same way. The BMW-powered Arnage, while objectively more modern than the Turbo RT it replaced, was more than a second slower to 60 mph than that car, and lacked the massive torque that Bentley customers had grown accustomed to.

Milan premieres continue to roll with the introduction of the KTM 1190 RC8. According to KTM, this lightweight superbike pumps out 155 horsepower and weighs 440 pounds with a full tank of gas. Enjoy these images of the new RC8, and take a look at KTM’s announcement below for more details.

KTM, the leader in the production of sports motorcycles celebrates a milestone in the company history with the world premiere of the first ever “Made in Austria” Superbike, the KTM 1190 RC8 at EICMA, the most important international motorcycle fair.
KTM CEO Stefan Pierer unveiled the 1190 RC8 on Tuesday, November 6 at 13.00 hours to herald a new era in the company history. KTM presented the series version of the most elaborate development project ever undertaken by the company, which is at the same time the most powerful series motorcycle ever developed in Austria.
“The RC8 is the perfect embodiment of the collective know-how and the sporting passion of our development teams. In addition, they have proven that KTM is capable of pushing through its own model strategy and in doing so, being absolutely true to our clear brand philosophy, also on the road,” Pierer commented when introducing the RC8 at the Milan fair.
The world’s leading manufacturer of offroad bikes has already proved itself with its innovations and has also caused a sensation with its outstandingly dynamic factory riders on the road racing circuit. Now KTM takes another crucial step towards having a complete range of unmistakable sports machines.

At the very heart of the 1190 RC8 is the completely newly developed super sporty two-cylinder based on the well known LC8 range of engines, which, with a top performance of 155 hp and a maximum amount of torque of 120 Nm delivers an overwhelming amount of power to the rider. A unique light tubular steel frame, highest quality suspension and brake components and unusual technical solutions such as the exhaust positioned under the bike complete the 1190 RC8, which weighs just 200kg with a full tank. The result is a Superbike that truly lives up to its name in every sense of the word.
With this brand new development, KTM also takes a new direction in the bike’s appearance. The concept of chief designer Gerald Kiska continues the notion o f integrating high quality technology into the bike in a purist and very visible way. As a genuine KTM, the 1190 RC8 also exhibits its pure motor racing genes even from a distance. The new KTM Superbike, available in both colour variations of orange/black and white/black will be available from March 2008, just in time for the start of the new motorcycle season.

shoei rf-1000 breakthrough

shoei rf-1000 breakthrough
No one would classify a Shoei helmets cheap motorcycle helmets, but that does not mean you do not care about getting good value for your dollar. Good news about the Shoei helmet you know that you will never lack in the quality. Shoei helmets are some of the best in the industry and better than other brands which many believe can walk on water.
I recently had a chance to road test the Shoei RF-1000 motorcycle helmet and this is what I found. You decide for yourself if the Shoei helmet is right for you.
Shoei is recognized their use Advanced Integrated Matrix build the outer shell is very strong but lightweight helmet produce. The reason is obvious, but like a good helmet, they want to protect your scalp in the event of an accident. Shoei helmets are tested in wind tunnels and therefore they are very angle and is designed to cut the wind well. A quick road test and you can immediately tell that this is a very comfortable motorcycle helmet that has a few flaws and works well.
Another great feature I noticed was that the Shoei RF-1000 is a very comfortable helmet, which is good, because the helmet is a comfortable helmet that you wear. Shoei Sports removable cheek pads and chin strap covers are available in various sizes so you can customize according to your specific needs or likes. This layer is designed to keep air flowing over your head out of the vents in front and then rear exhaust ports. Better airflow in my opinion and Shoei RF1000 does not disappoint.

Finally, you can not go wrong with a Shoei motorcycle helmet. I already have several of them in recent years and I never disappointed and I’m not sure you will direct. RF-1000 high on my list, because it is an all round helmet fits and is very comfortable and natural appeal to the eye. You can also create a better sense of both DOT and Snell-certified, plus other
