Mitsubishi’s “i” Mini wins the “Most Advanced Technology” Special Achievement Award

In the news: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation was happy to announce that their “i” mini passenger car won the “Most Advanced Technology” Special Achievement Award voted by the Car of the Year Japan’s Executive Committee*1. The “i” is the first mini passenger car to be given this honor.
This is not actually the first time for Mitsubishi to be awarded by the Car of the Year Japan’s Executive Committee*1, ten years ago its “Galant/Legnum” was declared Car of the Year Japan for 1996-1997.
The “i” was developed as an innovative Premium Small Car to overcome the problems that are traditionally associated with the category: design versus comfortable interior space and comfortable interior space versus impact safety. Mitsubishi was able to provide solution to these problems by developing a new and leading edge “rear-midship layout” that mounts the engine forward of the rear axle line and in turn makes way for three new innovations within the category’s dimensional constraints: futuristic and uptown styling, agile handling and a comfortable ride plus an excellent multidirectional impact safety. But the feature that really helps the “i” to obtain the award is its highly exterior and interior design.
